SEX EDUCATION FROM THE BIBLE

SEX EDUCATION FROM THE BIBLE

Some of the following verses are from the Old Testament. Many say the Old Testament no longer applies to today. Wrong. Matthew 5:17-19, NIV says, “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished. Therefore anyone who sets aside one of the least of these commands and teaches others accordingly will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven."

Yes, some of these laws are no longer practiced, especially the ceremonial laws like sacrificing on an altar. Jesus also changed laws about priests and baptism. He became the high priest when he was crucified. No other priest is necessary. John the Baptist baptized for the remission of sins but Jesus instituted a baptism that gives us the gift of the Holy Spirit and  forgiveness is permanent. Since John was baptizing before Jesus arrived, we can only assume that this was a Jewish practice.

The Old Testament is our teacher. It reveals to us what defines sin. When Jesus came, He taught that mature, willing obedience should be from the heart out of love and not as a "have to" requirement such as your parent or school required when you were young. So don't overlook the Old Testament non-ceremonial laws that still hold true.

I have listed all the verses I could find about sexual relations and how God views it.

Exodus 22:19 - “Anyone who has sexual relations with an animal is to be put to death.

Leviticus 18:6 - “No one is to approach any close relative to have sexual relations. I am the Lord.

Leviticus 18:7 - “Do not dishonor your father by having sexual relations with your mother. She is your mother; do not have relations with her.

Leviticus 18:8 - “‘Do not have sexual relations with your father’s wife; that would dishonor your father.

Leviticus 18:9 - “Do not have sexual relations with your sister, either your father’s daughter or your mother’s daughter, whether she was born in the same home or elsewhere.

Leviticus 18:10 - “‘Do not have sexual relations with your son’s daughter or your daughter’s daughter; that would dishonor you.

Leviticus 18:11 - “‘Do not have sexual relations with the daughter of your father’s wife, born to your father; she is your sister.

Leviticus 18:12 - “Do not have sexual relations with your father’s sister; she is your father’s close relative."

Leviticus 18:13 - “Do not have sexual relations with your mother’s sister, because she is your mother’s close relative."

Leviticus 18:14 - “Do not dishonor your father’s brother by approaching his wife to have sexual relations; she is your aunt."

“‘Do not have sexual relations with your daughter-in-law. She is your son’s wife; do not have relations with her."

Leviticus 18:16 - “Do not have sexual relations with your brother’s wife; that would dishonor your brother."

Leviticus 18:17 - “Do not have sexual relations with both a woman and her daughter. Do not have sexual relations with either her son’s daughter or her daughter’s daughter; they are her close relatives. That is wickedness."

Leviticus 18:18 - “Do not take your wife’s sister as a rival wife and have sexual relations with her while your wife is living."

Leviticus 18:19 - “Do not approach a woman to have sexual relations during the uncleanness of her monthly period."

Leviticus 18:20 - “Do not have sexual relations with your neighbor’s wife and defile yourself with her."

Leviticus 18:22 - “Do not have sexual relations with a man as one does with a woman; that is detestable."

Leviticus 18:23 - “Do not have sexual relations with an animal and defile yourself with it. A woman must not present herself to an animal to have sexual relations with it; that is a perversion."

Leviticus 20:11 - “If a man has sexual relations with his father’s wife, he has dishonored his father."

Leviticus 20:13 - “If a man has sexual relations with a man as one does with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable."

Leviticus 20:17 - “If a man marries his sister, the daughter of either his father or his mother, and they have sexual relations, it is a disgrace."

Leviticus 20:19 - “Do not have sexual relations with the sister of either your mother or your father, for that would dishonor a close relative; both of you would be held responsible."

Deuteronomy 27:21 - “Cursed is anyone who has sexual relations with any animal.”

Job 31:1 - “I made a covenant with my eyes not to look lustfully at a young woman."

Proverbs 6:25 - "Do not lust in your heart after her beauty or let her captivate you with her eyes."

Matthew 15:19 - "For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies:"

Matthew 5:27-28 - “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart."

Matthew 5:32 - "But I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, makes her the victim of adultery, and anyone who marries a divorced woman commits adultery."

Mark 7:21 - "For it is from within, out of a person’s heart, that evil thoughts come—sexual immorality, theft, murder,"

Romans 1:24 - Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another."

Romans 1:26 - "Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed shameful acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error."

Romans 7:3 - "So then, if she has sexual relations with another man while her husband is still alive, she is called an adulteress. But if her husband dies, she is released from that law and is not an adulteress if she marries another man."

Romans 12:2 - "Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will."

Romans 13:13 - Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy."

1 Corinthians 5:9 - "I wrote to you in my letter not to associate with sexually immoral people—"

1 Corinthians 5:11 - "But now I am writing to you that you must not associate with anyone who claims to be a brother or sister but is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater or slanderer, a drunkard or swindler. Do not even eat with such people." Paul is saying this in a letter to the church in Corinth. "Bad company corrupts good character." I Corinthians 15:33

1 Corinthians 6:9 - "Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God." Sincere repentance and turning your life around can change that judgment."

1 Corinthians 6:12-20 - “ 'I have the right to do anything,' you say—but not everything is beneficial. "I have the right to do anything”—but I will not be mastered by anything.' You say, 'Food for the stomach and the stomach for food, and God will destroy them both.' 'The body, however, is not meant for sexual immorality but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body. By his power God raised the Lord from the dead, and he will raise us also. Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ himself? Shall I then take the members of Christ and unite them with a prostitute? Never! Do you not know that he who unites himself with a prostitute is one with her in body? For it is said, 'The two will become one flesh.' But whoever is united with the Lord is one with him in spirit. Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body. Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies."

1 Corinthians 7:1-11 - "Now for the matters you wrote about: 'It is good for a man not to have sexual relations with a woman.' But since sexual immorality is occurring, each man should have sexual relations with his own wife, and each woman with her own husband. The husband should fulfill his marital duty to his wife, and likewise the wife to her husband. The wife does not have authority over her own body but yields it to her husband. In the same way, the husband does not have authority over his own body but yields it to his wife. Do not deprive each other except perhaps by mutual consent and for a time, so that you may devote yourselves to prayer. Then come together again so that Satan will not tempt you because of your lack of self-control. I say this as a concession, not as a command. I wish that all of you were as I am. But each of you has your own gift from God; one has this gift, another has that.
Now to the unmarried and the widows I say: It is good for them to stay unmarried, as I do. But if they cannot control themselves, they should marry, for it is better to marry than to burn with passion. To the married I give this command (not I, but the Lord): A wife must not separate from her husband. But if she does, she must remain unmarried or else be reconciled to her husband. And a husband must not divorce his wife."

1 Corinthians 10:8 - "We should not commit sexual immorality, as some of them did—and in one day twenty-three thousand of them died."

2 Corinthians 12:21 - "I am afraid that when I come again my God will humble me before you, and I will be grieved over many who have sinned earlier and have not repented of the impurity, sexual sin and debauchery in which they have indulged."

Galations 5:13-25 - "You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love. For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” If you bite and devour each other, watch out or you will be destroyed by each other. So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit."

Ephesians 4:17-19, NIV - "So I tell you this, and insist on it in the Lord, that you must no longer live as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their thinking. They are darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardening of their hearts. Having lost all sensitivity, they have given themselves over to sensuality so as to indulge in every kind of impurity, and they are full of greed."

Ephesians 5:3 - "But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God’s holy people."

Colossians 3:5 - "Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry."

I Thessalonians 4:3-5, 7-8 - "It is God’s will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality; that each of you should learn to control your own body in a way that is holy and honorable, not in passionate lust like the pagans, who do not know God…For God did not call us to be impure, but to live a holy life. Therefore, anyone who rejects this instruction does not reject a human being but God, the very God who gives you his Holy Spirit."

1 Timothy 1:10 - "for the sexually immoral, for those practicing homosexuality, for slave traders and liars and perjurers—and for whatever else is contrary to the sound doctrine."

Hebrews 12:16 - "See that no one is sexually immoral, or is godless like Esau, who for a single meal sold his inheritance rights as the oldest son."

Hebrews 13:4 - "Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral."

I Peter 4:3 - "For you have spent enough time in the past doing what pagans choose to do—living in debauchery, lust, drunkenness, orgies, carousing and detestable idolatry."

II Peter 2:17b-22 - "Blackest darkness is reserved for them. For they mouth empty, boastful words and, by appealing to the lustful desires of the flesh, they entice people who are just escaping from those who live in error. They promise them freedom, while they themselves are slaves of depravity—for 'people are slaves to whatever has mastered them.' If they have escaped the corruption of the world by knowing our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and are again entangled in it and are overcome, they are worse off at the end than they were at the beginning. It would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than to have known it and then to turn their backs on the sacred command that was passed on to them. Of them the proverbs are true: 'A dog returns to its vomit,' and, 'A sow that is washed returns to her wallowing in the mud.' "

I John 1:8-9 - "If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness."

I John 2:16 - "For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world."

Jude 1:7 - "In a similar way, Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding towns gave themselves up to sexual immorality and perversion. They serve as an example of those who suffer the punishment of eternal fire."

Revelation 2:14 - "Nevertheless, I have a few things against you: There are some among you who hold to the teaching of Balaam, who taught Balak to entice the Israelites to sin so that they ate food sacrificed to idols and committed sexual immorality."

Revelation 2:20 - "Nevertheless, I have this against you: You tolerate that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophet. By her teaching she misleads my servants into sexual immorality and the eating of food sacrificed to idols."

Revelation 9:21 - "Nor did they repent of their murders, their magic arts, their sexual immorality or their thefts."

Revelation 21:8 - "But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars—they will be consigned to the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.”

Revelation 22:15 - "Outside are the dogs, those who practice magic arts, the sexually immoral, the murderers, the idolaters and everyone who loves and practices falsehood."
