FORGETTING SINS OF THE PAST

FORGETTING SINS OF THE PAST

If you are a Christian and love the Lord with all your heart, soul and mind and but still grieve over your past sins, these verses are for you. God does not want you to beat yourself up over and over because of past sins and things you regret. It is a waste of time and is one of the devil's tactics -- to keep reminding you. It will bring you down and make you lose focus of the positive things you should be thinking about. Use every moment wisely. Don't live in the past. God is not there. He's in the present wanting to use you just as you are. If you think you're not good enough, think about the different Bible stories where God used men and at least one woman that weren't seen by others as being good enough: David, Gideon, Rahab, Moses, Saul/Paul, the Apostle.

I Peter 4:8 - Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins

II Peter 1:5-9 - For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love. For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. But whoever does not have them is nearsighted and blind, forgetting that they have been cleansed from their past sins.

Isaiah 54:4 - “Do not be afraid; you will not be put to shame. Do not fear disgrace; you will not be humiliated. You will forget the shame of your youth…”

Isaiah 43:18-19 - "Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland.

Philippians 3:13* - Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead,

Hebrews 12:1 - Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles.

Mentally living in the past robs you of healthy mental thoughts in the present. It alters your expressions, your tone of voice, and hinders your joy in life. You cannot progress as well in maturity, cognitive thinking, relationships and possibly your job, schoolwork, or whatever may be the case. People will read you wrong and make take your downcast look personally as if they had offended you in some way. If you have kids, they may avoid you.

If someone demeans you by bringing up past sins, let them know your slate is clean. Because you repented and were sorrowful, Christ forgave you and you are cleansed of your sins and are as white as snow. Ask them if they can say the same.

The Bible tells us not to look back, as evidenced in the above verses. Looking back is the equivalent of what happened to Lot's wife when they were leaving the city of Sodom. God told them explicitly not to look back. Lot didn't but his wife did, and she turned into a pillar of salt. In essence, she froze in time. She could no longer go forward. She didn't want to leave Sodom so God gave her what she wanted.
