MY DEFINITION OF A MOTHER

MY DEFINITION OF A MOTHER

A mother keeps you safe,
During the growing up years of your life,
And all the while she must balance it with,
The role of being a wife.

She wipes your behind in the early days,
Cleans your vomit and stops your tears.
She's your nurse, your teacher, and your house police,
During your teenage years.

She reads you books, she tucks you in,
She teaches you to pray,
Which is something she does herself,
Each and every day.

She knows your days are numbered,
So she's concerned where your soul will go.
She takes you to Sunday School and church,
Where your love for the Lord will grow.

She answers a thousand questions,
And referees many a fight.
When you are sick or hurt or scared,
She's by your side, day or night.

She's as gentle as a lamb most times,
But a lion when her child is sad.
She diffuses anger with her wit,
And is a rock when things go bad.

She comforts and nurtures and hugs you,
And teaches you to sing.
She sets the example of how to handle,
The trials your life will bring.

She's there on the day you leave home,
Then grieves her empty nest.
Until she suddenly realizes,
She finally gets to rest.

She's there on your wedding day,
Then her new name will one day be worn,
For she will be called "Grandma,"
Whenever each baby is born.
