MAKE THE MOST OF YOUR PRAYERS

First and foremost, you have to pray. - "You do not have because you do not ask God."

Use every means to alert people you need prayer. Be specific in your reason for needing prayer. Ask for prayer on facebook, ask your church family to pray, ask people you meet to pray. Go to church sites on facebook or anywhere else on the internet and ask for prayer.

Contact those people you feel are the most righteous people you know. Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective." It may or may not be preachers. It could be or just a devoted Christian. Some churches have or circles. Spread the word any way you can. Every prayer is like sending up who are battling the dark forces to get to your loved one. - “Do not be afraid, Daniel. Have the elders of the church anoint the sick or injured person with oil and pray over him or her. It's a lost practice but it's straight out of the Bible. - "Is any sick among you? Let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord."

If you make a vow, don't break it. - "It is better not to make a vow than to make one and not fulfill it."

Fast. Don't eat at all but drink water. Or eat little and drink water. Don't put your own health at risk, though. Those with or who are otherwise unhealthy, such as with a , probably shouldn't fast.

Pray for those who are fearing for the sick or injured one. Pray no one has a car accident getting to the sick or injured person. They are going to be upset and may be tired and/or crying, which may increase the odds of them having an accident.

Sometimes things don't go the way we want them to go. They may even get worse before they get better. I think of when he was going through a stage of depression. He had faced and was so afraid of death that he wanted to die (a paradox). He lay down to sleep then an angel woke him up and gave him a cake and water to drink. The angel then told him to get ready for a very long trip. He had to walk a long way, climb a mountain, endure an earthquake and fire, and finally God whispered to him in a cave and made everything right again.

One final verse: " - Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God."

Suicide is not a natural instinct and defies reason. Most of us have a survival instinct. There are those who live in fear everyday of bombs, possible torture, potential rape, etc. There are those who have cut off a limb just to survive a situation in which they are pinned by something in the middle of nowhere. And then there are those who are faced with stressful situations and have no desire to live. Sometimes it is a relationship problem. A death wish is common among those living in distress, and that still falls in the normal category, but suicide does not.

Logic says that many situations change whether or not we want them to change. Granted, some take us by surprise. A person who wants to kill themselves rather than trying to work through a situation or situations is not thinking logically. They forget about the things they enjoy. They forget about the people who love them and how badly their loved ones will be affected. They forget that their favorite season is just around the corner. They don’t take into account that new members will be added to the family either through birth or marriage.

Drugs play a role in many suicides. They cloud a person’s thinking process. Drugs give misguided advice. When the drugs take over, the suicidal one is no longer in control. They begin to hate themselves and don’t see a way out. They want to be free again but find it is too painful and stressful. Or they may think they are perfectly normal and anything people say that suggests they are not normal will cause them to be defiant and those people will be alienated. They may also alienate loved ones because they are ashamed of themselves. Depression often goes along with drugs. The drugs may cause depression and the depression may cause people to turn to drugs. It’s a vicious cycle.

It isn’t unusual to hear about celebrities who try to commit or do commit suicide. They may have everything a person could want going for them: money, fame, luxurious homes, fancy cars, good looks, talent, etc. and yet they cannot live with themselves. Again, that’s unnatural and is void of logic.

Mental illness may play a role in the suicide epidemic. It’s as if the survival instinct is backfiring. The synapses that are firing in the brain are in reverse in a part of the reasoning area. Could it be that the brain cells in that area have been damaged or were never there? Could it be that drugs or food additives have killed the cells in that area.

It is important that we pay attention when someone even mentions taking their own lives. Don’t let the subject pass. Ask questions. See if they already have a plan in mind. “If you did it, how would you do it?” Find out if they have the means (gun, knife, razor blade). Ask if they would do it at home or go to a favorite area. Ask them how much rest they have been getting lately and if they have been eating. Are they giving their belongings away? Have they been depressed? Hug them and tell them you care about them and hope they are just joking. But follow up checking on them and by all means tell their parents or ones close to them even if they think you’re nuts. If they are on the verge of committing suicide in your presence, stop them if you can and take them to a hospital for evaluation.

THE FIRST FEMALE POLICE CHIEF IN FRANKLIN COUNTY IL

My maiden name is Overturf. My dad was from Buckner. I don't know if this ancestor was directly kin to us but the article is interesting. The internet is unwilling to recognize her as the first police chief of Buckner or Franklin County and this is the only record available except for possibly her descendants who are now spread around the country. So I'm getting this information out there so they will give this female the credit due her.

I wrote this fake Order of Nonprotection while in Bible College in 1999. It was part of a class assignment which required 3 creative writings based on the Bible. This one was inspired by Malachi, the 2nd chapter. Malachi is the last book in the Old Testament.

I wrote this over 25 years ago. I was writing letters to the editor and getting rebuttals filled with ridiculous accusations, character assassinations and name-calling. My then husband, now deceased, feared they would burn our house down. They might have if we had lived in a bigger town or in a city.

The hate felt by the liberal writers boils over from their hearts into their words. Just look at some of the names and accusations they have unjustly hurled at Christians: "hate-ridden, pro-skinheads, hypocrites, pro-Nazis, repressive, myopic, so-called Christians, superior, one of God's official finger pointers, self-righteous, blockheads..."today's Pharisees pointing their bony fingers and damning to hell everyone who disagrees with them," and that some Christians would nail Jesus to the cross again if Jesus didn't agree with them that homosexuality was forbidden. Most of these were aimed at me and another writer. I still grieve the fact that one of the writers of rebuttals (to our letters) donated a million dollars to SIU, Carbondale, to teach his liberal stances. They were already liberal, but this donation added fuel to the fire.

If we are to communicate one another's points of view, it must be done without name-calling and ridicule, especially occurring towards those of us who are dedicated to our faith in God as our Creator, teacher, and Father, and who seek to preserve His laws just as we are commanded to do in His Word over and over again throughout both the Old and New Testaments. The liberal writers disclaim those scriptures that do not conform to their wishful thinking.

I am outraged at the immoral agenda they are trying to force down the throats of Christians while silencing us with their favorite chant, "separation of church and state." Even though Christians may not participate in the immoral acts they do, they may still be found guilty, not for what they did do, but for that which they didn't do to stop the evils that threaten to destroy our families, churches, society, government, and ultimately, the nation. Their silence was in essence joining with the enemy. If we are not for God, we are against Him.

God, on the one hand, is very loving, full of mercy and grace to the repentant sinner, but is on the other hand a strict disciplinarian, and means exactly what He says in the scriptures. Freedom to be responsible has been replaced by freedom to do your own thing, never mind the consequences. This false freedom is deceiving because it leads to bondage to sin, slavery at its worst, and collective social decay.

Christians are for morals, we are for family, we are for life, we are for God and country. The liberals want to kick God out of the country. I suppose one could say they have succeeded. We are no longer "one nation, under God."

Some think the Bible has only one word in it: Love. Never mind the commandments. says, "Whoever has my commands and obeys them, he is the one who loves me." Some try to make Christians think that they do not have a right to speak out. They do so by making an unjust attempt to verbally whip Christians into submission with a scripture they know would cut us to the quick of it were true: "Judge not, lest ye be judged." says, "All scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness…"

Love is the most important theme in the Bible--not lust, or sex. But love in action calls for truth, responsibility, and obedience, putting others before self rather than self-gratification. One can pick up on a pattern among liberal writers in that they disclaim the Bible when the Bible doesn't agree with them. People can teach false doctrines or distort scriptures, but this can only be accomplished if the audience is spiritually weak and uninformed. We have a responsibility to learn the scriptures so that we are not deceived. The Bible isn't a smorgasbord of do's and don'ts. We can't pick and choose what we like and don't like.

I am concerned for the homosexuals in much the same way I am concerned about alcoholics, drug addicts, habitual gamblers, abusers and any other who has become a slave to a sin which dictates his every thought and move. Though the slave may hate his captor, himself, and his behavior, he cannot seem to break free of the monster that enslaves him. The answer should never be to give the monster a license to practice. There is a wealth of wisdom, hope, and freedom in that I would love to share with these people, but they're not usually interested. Therefore I must be resolved to defend God's Word so the monsters don't turn on my family.

We Christians cannot just "mind our own business" while the morals and future go down the tube or, more accurately, down the toilet. Religious fundamentalism, even with its diversity of beliefs, is and always has been, and always will be, a better answer than sexual promiscuity, irresponsibility, self-gratification, self-centeredness, selfishness towards health concerns (AIDS and related diseases), broken families, broken lives, morally corrupt government, social chaos, and all else that goes along with the attitudes and agendas of those within the ranks of the gay and feminist movements. "A man's own folly ruins his life, yet his heart rages against the Lord."

We pander to the gays and allow our children to be taught that homosexuality is an "alternative lifestyle," when the reverse should be happening. In consideration of our children, we should "teach" gays to choose an alternative lifestyle to homosexuality. People can learn a new behavior, and the sooner we begin to teach our children a healthy lifestyle, the better. If we validate the homosexual behavior, allowing people alternative lifestyles so that we don't "invade their privacy," where will it all end? Just think of all the deviant sexual behaviors besides homosexuality: sadomasochism, bestiality, bigamy, pedophilia, nudity, incest, prostitution, exhibitionism, or any combination of the above. If we legitimize one, all others with deviant behaviors will want their behaviors legitimized.

What gays do behind closed doors IS their business and their choice of where to spend eternity, but do we have to approve of it? And do we really want our children to be taught these alternative lifestyles? The value of life, the meaning of life, and the morals of life have been reduced to a minimum level, leaving kids to grow up with no sense of normal -- anything goes, and wondering why the long-term consequences of an immoral lifestyle are so painful. People are willing to gamble that God is a pushover or that "He will understand," or that Judgment Day, heaven, and hell do not really exist. I Corinthians 6:9-10 says, "Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men ... will inherit the kingdom of God."

I wish gays were looking for love and not approval from us. They, instead, hate those of us who will not approve. Sounds like an argument whispers in one's ear to help them justify their sexual sins. The Bible doesn't change, but people do change, some for the better, some for the worst. We are each responsible for his or her own spiritual growth. Love, not lust, makes the world go round. The emphasis should be on love, the kind that thinks of others first, not self. The Bible is of no private interpretation; the homosexual issue is not up for theological debate. God's position is stated clearly in both the . Christians are sinners, too, but sinners in the process of changing, who at least acknowledge right and wrong, even if they are not always obedient. When one rationalizes and justifies his or her actions, they are, in essence, selling their souls to the devil for the price of whatever small pleasures can be derived from participating in a sinful act. These "quick fixes" may be an escape from a deep hurt they carry, but only more problems can be expected. To be free in the flesh is to become enslaved by sin; vices become masters. "Don't you know that when you offer yourselves to someone to obey him as slaves, you are slaves to the one whom you obey--whether you are slaves to sin, which leads to death, or to obedience, which leads to righteousness."

Homosexuality is an abominable sin because it is not only adultery, but is not natural, and is not according to God's design, which is for a man and a woman to unite as one. Fundamentalists are told we are intolerant but, to the contrary, we are normally very tolerant of the weaknesses of others, knowing we all sin and fall short of the glory of God, and that we are all human, and there would be no need to go to church in the first place if we were perfect, and there was only one perfect one, and that was Jesus. What we are not tolerant of is open, unrepented, continual sin, especially when that sin is being shoved back at us for our approval so the sinners can teach it to our children as acceptable.

"Those who live according to the sinful nature have their minds set on what that nature desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. The mind of sinful man is death, but the mind controlled by the Spirit is life and peace; the sinful man is hostile to God. It does not submit to God's law, nor can it do so. Those controlled by the sinful nature cannot please God."

Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the sinful nature." : "So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light. Gays and their supporters pull a few verses out of context, like "Judge not, lest ye be judged," and "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you," but fundamentalists view the Bible in its totality. The Bible is not a smorgasbord; one cannot pick and choose what he or she likes and refuse the rest. The Bible is more like a well-balanced meal; we must fill our plate and eat everything on it, allowing our bodies a chance to thoroughly digest the food. We may not like everything we eat, but we must do what is best for us in order to be healthy. Some people never get past a diet of milk. : "In fact, though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you the elementary truths of God’s word all over again. You need milk, not solid food!" 1 Corinthians 2:14 - 3:2 (KJV) says, "But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man. For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? but we have the mind of Christ. And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ. I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able." The question is, do you still settle for the milk or have you matured enough to get into the meat of God's Word? You may not like everything you read in the Bible but if you’ve read it all, you know there are consequences to your choices. Your choices are between you and God/Christ, but in the end, Christ is the judge of your obedience, your relationship with Him, and your choices.
